Wine is a fine drink that has been produced for hundreds of years. We bring you articles about wine and wine-growers as well as further interesting information from the interesting world of wine.
In vino veritas.
It is an agricultural method based on a series of lectures given by Rudolf Steiner in Koberwitz in 1924. Biodynamics is trying to make use of the nature's healing powers. It is the oldest „non-chemical“ production method as it came about 20 years before organic agriculture and it has spread all over the world. Wine made according to its principles is pure natural product.
Biodynamics respect basic ecological rules and from that point of view, the farmer is a part of the ecosystem. Its main focus is not to fight consequences of problems, but to find and explain causes of those problems. It tries to reach the harmony of the nature. Biodynamics is a method that works with life (bio) and its processes (dynamics) rather than killing everything with phytocides, acaricides and insecticides , which is typical for many “modern” methods.
Enjoy the wine from Mr. Hasard.
Alain Hasard has accepted these premises and he tries to protect and respect the environment. His vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics and his work has been supervised by French classification society, Ecocert, since 1999. The procedures of biodynamics include winter ploughing, leaving the surrounding of the vineyards unaffected, respecting the sun cycle and that is why Mr. Hasard'd vineyards work in balance with the environment. He does not use any chemical fertilizers or any other artificial procedures. His focus has always been on the soil. He tries facing all negative effects by using nature's ways.
He wrote an article about biodynamics, where he himslef pointed out the importance of „being punctual“ when choosing the grapes in order to select only the best ones. After the harvest the wine is left to ferment without any artificial accelerator or chemical procedures. This means 8 to 10 days for Pinot noir which is just enough for this breed to unfold all its beauty and elegance with lightness in detail. There is no additional filtration when the wine is being bottled, and so his wine is full of life. If you want to really enjoy the full detail on its bouquet and taste, you should pour the wine into decanter 1 or 2 hours before serving.
